Miserere di Gregorio Allegri

Un ritratto. (A portrait) Approx. 1765

   This ritratto of me by the artist, Jean-Etienne Liotard; was made when I was about 23 years old. At that time I was very ambitious and excited to become a great and well-known composer and violoncellista. However, it was a period of shifting employment and bitter, distant travel to reach these jobs, and I suffered greatly from home-sickness. I had yet to find that grande opportunità  in my life, but my determination in this period is what aided me in reaching that point.

Stradivarius violoncello

  This is a Stradivarius cello, now known as the Servais Stradevarius. It is known as one of the finest violoncellos ever crafted and was made within 40 years of my birth, so the style of it is very similar to the models I would've been playing. It is a strumento molto bello, and as violoncellistas dream of playing instruments of this caliber, as did I when I was a performer.

La mia città: Lucca (My hometown: Lucca)

 
  This is an image of the Piazza Anfitreato in Lucca, Italy, my città. I was born in Lucca and lived there until I moved to Rome for tutoring and on then on to Vienna for a orcehstra position. Afterwards, I never returned to my città as a permanent resident for the rest of my life, but Lucca always remained a part of my heart.
